Manchester United have secured the signature of Netherlands defender
Daley Blind from Ajax in a reported £14m deal.
The 24-year-old has been heavily
linked with a move to Old Trafford, after being part of Louis van Gaal’s
Netherlands squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Blind has won 19 caps for the Oranje
and scored during his country's 3-0 against Brazil in the third-place playoff
at the World Cup.
Van Gaal is keen to secure the
services of the versatile defender as he believes he will fit perfectly in his
fancied 3-5-2 system that he is trying to introduce at Manchester United.
Blind, who is set for a medical at
Old Trafford today told reporters:
"It's a very exciting time and I
am going over to England for the final details.
“I have had contact with Louis van
Gaal in the last few days about the role I am going to play at United but the
conversations which took place stay between him and me."
The Red Devils have also splashed the
cash this summer for the signatures of Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw
and Marcos Rojo taking their summer spending to around £150m.
