Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has promised to shoot down
an amendment to the law by Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, that will cap foreign
funding to NGOs at 15% and give Uhuru/ Ruto’s Government direct authority to
oversight them.
Addressing the Press on Sunday, CORD,
led by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, described the proposed Bill by
Kuria as draconian, retrogressive and revenge on civil society over their
alignment to CORD and their alleged role in recruiting and coaching
International Criminal Court (ICC) witnesses against President Uhuru Kenyatta
and his Deputy, William Ruto.
Kalonzo termed the motion as malicious
and targeting CORD, but warned that that will not be over because God is keenly
watching how Uhuru/ Ruto are humiliating NGOs and CORD, who are only but trying
to make the life better for Kenyans, and that He will punish them soon.
“It is a motion borne of bad faith. It
is therefore selfish and self-serving of the Jubilee administration. The world
over, you cannot silence the civil society. The motion is therefore against
national interest. The world is watching Kenya and God is certainly watching
too and he will soon react, for these NGOs which are being humiliated are faith
based,” said Kalonzo.
