Residents of Makueni County on Friday staged a demonstration along
Harambee Avenue seeking to petition President Uhuru Kenyatta to
immediately dissolve Makueni county government.
They said the wanted fresh elections or to have the county placed
under the control of the national government, noting that their county
has become ineffective due to leadership wrangles between Governor Prof
Kivutha Kibwana and the County assembly.
“We are tired of the wrangles between the leadership of our county,
hence this demonstration to Harrambee house and later to statehouse to
compel the president to dissolve the county government of Makueni. As it
stands we are not getting services from the county government due to
the standoff”, said one of the residents Micheal Kitaa.
Kitaa added, “We have collected over 50,000 signatures more than the
constitutionally required 35,000 to compel the president to dissolve the
government”.
They also blamed wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for failing to
address the issue, whereas most of the county assembly members’ hail
from his Party.
