Polygamy is among the touchiest issues that Kenyans contend with
everyday, yet debate on the matter rarely goes beyond the drama that
ensues between co-wives. More often than not, we are confronted with the
reality every time a ‘big’ man dies and his second or third wife shows
up demanding for her rights.
This is exactly the situation playing out in the funeral arrangements for the late Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang.
A woman claiming to be his second wife was barred from viewing the
body at the Lee funeral home after he died. It made for dramatic photos
for the media as the distraught woman, amid sobs, tried to fight for
what she believes is her right. But that was it. No one really followed
up the matter. Now it emerges that Faith Kajwang and her children have been left out
of Kajwnag’s funeral arrangements. The late senator is set for burial
this Friday in Homa Bay.
Not many people have come out to speak for Faith, who is said to have
a 19 year old daughter with the late senator. However Nairobi business
woman Esther Passaris has come out, at least on twitter, to speak on the
matter.
Check out her tweets below.
Whether or not the efforts by Passaris will result in any form of relief for Mrs. Kajwang, remains to be seen.
