The Commonwealth 50m Butterfly defending champion Jason Dunford on Thursday failed to qualify for the finals of the same event as he finished in 5th place in his semifinal heat with 24.03 timing.
Dunford’s semifinals time of 23.76 ranked him 5th overall and second in his heat behind proud qualifying for the semifinals.
His hopes of defending his title were however dashed when he returned last in his semifinals heat that was won by Englishman Ben Proud who posted 23.16 followed by Chad Le Clos on 23.29 and Jayden Hadler in 23.67 in third place.
Dunford now remains with the 100m-Butterfly and the 100m-freestyle to try and salvage his glory at the Commonwealth games.
