A Chief and his Assistant from Embu East Sub-County were arrested
on Friday for drinking during working hours thus breaking the alcohol control
law.
The duo, Kagaari South West Chief, Japeth
Ngari, and Nthagaiya Assistant Chief, Patrick Irungu, were found
heavily drunk in separate bars by police who were acting on a tip off from
members of the public.
Embu East Deputy County Commissioner, Tom
Macheneli, said that members of the public reported to them what was going on
after they looked for them in their offices in vain.
He immediately sent an Assistant County
Commissioner and an Administration Police Officer who arrested the
administrators. Macheneli noted that many local Chiefs absconded duty to pass
time in dingy drinking dens with others running the business by themselves
hence having no time to look into wananchi’s concerns.
A crackdown will be conducted soon to
arrest such law enforcers.
