safari 300x224 Malaysian Syndrome : Safari Express plane bound for Magadi from Mwanza  Disappears An aircraft with three passengers that had left Mwanza for Magadi has gone missing.

The aircraft, registration 5YSXP, operated by Safari Express Limited had left Mwanza Airport in Tanzania on Sunday at around 4.26pm.

Upon reaching 14000 feet above the sea level, it lost communication with the the radar at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Area Control manager at the JKIA control tower, Mr Peter Clever Davor, said that the aircraft had not been traced.

The Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) commandant Joseph ole Tito Monday morning confirmed that the aircraft was missing.

“The aircraft has not been located and the details we have are very scanty,” he said.

The Kenya Police Airwing has dispatched an aircraft as the search and rescue mission begins. The Fokker F-27-500, manufactured by Fokker, is a cargo aircraft.

FLY THROUGH JKIA

Police, however, did not say why the aircraft was to fly from Tanzania to Kenya directly.

Flights from neighbouring countries are supposed to fly through the JKIA, Wilson and Wajir airports for reverse screening.

Plans are also underway to include the Kisumu airport as another entry point
