Members of the County Assemblies (MCAs) are demanding Sh12 billion from
the Jubilee Government to drop their call for a national referendum, SILLYKENYAN can now report.
Under the deal, which is being pushed
by the County Assembly Forum (CAF), the Government will be forced to fund the
construction of offices for all the 2,100 Ward Representatives. The
construction of the offices requires Sh6.3 billion.
The government will also be required
to pay the salaries of their staff and extend car grants of up to Sh2 million
to each of the Ward Representatives. This will set the taxpayer back by Sh4.2
billion. The cost of fuelling and maintaining the vehicles will also be met by
the taxpayer. In total, MCAs want Sh 12 billion from taxpayers to drop the referendum
call.
Meeting CAF officials on
Saturday in Kwale , President Uhuru Kenyatta accepted MCAs’ demands and
said his Government will meet all the demands by the MCA’s to thwart referendum
attempts by CORD coalition.
Are MCAs justified in demanding for
Sh 12 billion from the Government to withdraw their support for a referendum?
