The launch of a political party associated with Rongo member of parliament Dalmas Otieno is set for next week. Sources told us that all preparations are in place for the unveiling of the party, Kenya Development Party (KDP). It emerged that the unveiling of the party had been delayed because Registrar of Political parties Lucy Ndung’u had rejected the initial name, Kalausi – a Luo word meaning whirlwind – because it is a word associated with destruction.
“The party was to be launched long time ago but were advised by Ndungu to drop Kalausi name as it is associated with destruction which might taint the party negatively,” the party’s interim secretary general Francis Osenye said. However, he said Kalausi would remain its official slogan. Osenye, who vied for the Kisumu Governor’s seat in last year’s elections, outlined that after registration, the party would immediately embark on a countrywide member recruitment drive.
