Safaricom Have Finally Launched 4G Internet, Find Out Where it is Available

It’s been a long time coming but finally 4G internet has finally arrived in Kenya after a Safaricom launch that happened today. Well technically in Nairobi and Mombasa but consider that is where the most concentration of 4G ready smartphones is.

Safaricom has been testing the 4G LTE network in several areas in Nairobi though it wasn’t made accessible to their consumers. The launch in Nairobi and Mombasa are part of a phased roll out and we expect that 4G will be rolled out to other areas throughout 2015.
And though 4G LTE network is not new to Africa, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore promises that it is the fastest in the continent.
“This is the best 4G in the whole continent of Africa and at 100MBps is the fastest in Africa.”
There are currently over 100,000 4G-ready smartphones on the Safaricom network but the company says it has plans to lower the price of devices to around Sh9,000 so that their consumers can utilize the 4G LTE network.
Currently 4G internet is only available in Gigiri, Runda, Buruburu, Lower Kabete, Parkands in Nairobi and Mombasa Island and Changamwe in Mombasa.
Safaricom aims to make 4G available across the rest of Nairobi and Mombasa by March 2015 and across 15 counties by March 2016. In 36 months Safaricom will have achieved full 4G internet coverage across the country.
