Introducing the Jaw-Dropping YotaPhone 2, The Smartphone With Two Screens

Every once in a while you see something that absolutely blows your mind, and for me the YotaPhone 2 would have to be one of those things.

The year 2014 has seen some amazing smartphones the likes of the OnePlus One which offers the consumers all that a flagship smartphone would offer but at half the price. They called it the Flagship killer.
And then we have the LG G3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 that brought us the QuadHD display, rich in color and clear and crispier than any other smartphone out there.
But all in all, we have yet to really see a completely disruptive quite like the YotaPhone 2. Voted the most disruptive phone of 2014 by Forbes, the YotaPhone 2 puts the smart in smartphone.
It is one of the first Android smartphones to have two fully functional displays, one on the front and another on the back.
With many innovative devices like the YotaPhone 2, the creators compromise a lot on other features just to deliver something new and impressive. But the Yota is not just for show, the 5 inch Android smartphone comes with many features that you would expect from a typical mid-ranged smartphone.

Despite having two screens, there was no compromise on the 1920x 1080 pixels, 5inches, and 441 ppi (pixels per inch) front LCD display. It also comes with 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera.
On the performance side, the Yota comes with a 2.3GHz Quadcore processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. It also has a 2550 mAh battery and operates the Android 4.4 KitKat (soon to be upgraded to 5.0 Lollipop).

And if you thought the additional screen on the back was just for aesthetic purposes only, you would be sadly disappointed.
The rear screen of the Yota is made of e-paper (using e-ink technology) and is made especially for energy saving. A typical smartphone screen will consume anything from 20 percent of the phones power depending on the type of display among other things.

The rear display of the Yota has only 960 x 540 pixels and is black and white therefore would not be ideal for video watching or gaming purposes but is ideal for reading. However that is not it’s only purpose, it can also be a good weather and notification display. It is also good for gaming when your battery is really low and is a back-cover that would impress more than most.
There are also apps built around the rear screen just to add more function to it. We have games like Chess, Checkers, Sudoku, and a YotaRSS app. You can also fully mirror the front screen onto the back that gives it a black and white appearance kind of like the power saving mode in the Samsung Galaxy S5. This also means it that all apps can work on the back display but good luck trying to play Candy Crush on that black and white screen.

Company CEO Vlad Martynov announced Twitter integration during the phone’s launch event in London this week, so the app selection is growing.
All in all the back of the Yota can be a pretty good emergencies only function as well as giving your phone a premium look and feel.
On the down side, the YotaPhone 2 is pretty expensive, around $860 (Sh.78,000) so it’s basically out of reach for most consumer. The price would also surely make many conservative people who would be willing to try out a two screened smartphone.
