Google planning two Nexus smartphones this year?

Google planning two Nexus smartphones this year?Google is said to be working on two versions of the rumoured Moto S handset – both of which could be ready before the end of the year. However, there is a caveat.

According to reports, Google is waiting to see whether or not the Moto X+1 sells – the result of which will determine the shape the second phone takes.

The two Moto S models Google is trying out are a 5.2-inch model and a 5.9-inch model. According to PhoneArena, the model launched will depend on the success of the Moto X+1.

We still don’t know tons about the Moto X+1. It is thought that it is a 5.2-inch smartphone. The reports claim that if the phone performs poorly, Google is likely to put that down to it being too ‘small’ for today’s phablet hungry market. If that is the case, it is said to be planning to launch the 5.9-inch model.

But where does the Nexus branding come in? Well, according to the report, if the Moto X–1 doesn’t perform well, Google may choose to rebrand the smaller Moto S handset and make it part of the Nexus range.

Google is already said to be prepping the 5,9-inch Nexus X. The smaller 5.2-inch model would then slot in under that.

Obviously, there’s a lot of ifs and buts. Despite that, it’s still good to know that there’s (apparently) still life in the Nexus brand.

We’ll find out for certain in the next couple of months.
