Raila's View: Natural Resources To Be Dealt With At County Level

Odinga stressed his support for the referendum called by the Governors particularly on devolving forests and natural resources saying this would ensure the locals benefited from the resources.
He said, “In this era of devolution, local people must be given more control over forests and water resources, management of forests should be left to the Governors and their County Governments. When local people control their forests and their water resources they are more likely to conserve and use them sustainably. This is one of the demands governors want to take to the referendum and I agree with them.”
Speaking while receiving an award from the Green Hand Foundation for his exemplary performance in protecting the environment, Odinga lauded the youth for their efforts in sensitising fellow youth on the importance of environment conservation.

“That is why I got involved in the Mau in particular and our water towers in general. To date, I remain proud of the work we did, the care with which we did it and the benefits it conferred on our people.”
He went on to say; “We have a date with destiny as Kenyans and something must be done. That is also why it is very refreshing to see young people taking it upon themselves to conserve what they feel is going to waste in the hands of a reckless and leaderless generation. I am proud of the work of the Green Hand organisation and ready to be associated with you.”
And not steering away from politics Odinga lashed out at fellow politicians who dismissed him over the Mau evictions saying the same politicians are behind poaching that have wiped out thousand of animals.
